How does it work?

First of all, it analyzes each image using a face-detection algorithm to determine if there are any people included in the composition.It then analyzes the skin tones of any people in the frame and, if necessary, adjusts the colour to achieve more natural skin tones and a better photo.

Epson PhotoEnhance can even recognize when the subject is backlit, and optimise skin tones and overall exposure. PhotoEnhance can also correct colour casts, which is an unnatural colour tint that affects the entire photo.

At photofinishing labs, this type of colour correction is dependent on the skill of the technician, and the equipment used, so results often vary. With Epson PhotoEnhance, it’s consistent and automatic, enabling you to quickly and easily obtain professional-quality colour photos at home.

The PhotoEnhance system can also differentiate between images of people and images of other subjects, such as scenery.

In the case of scenery, it takes advantage of the fact that inkjet printing can reproduce much richer blues and greens than conventional photo printing, and delivers beautiful photos that more faithfully reproduce the colours of the natural world.
